Introduction to Equality and Diversity in North Wales Police Authority
North Wales Police Authority has both a legal and moral duty to promote equality and fairness through all its business, whether that is internally amongst staff, members and volunteers or externally in its dealings with the communities of North Wales.
Ensuring the principles of equality are driven throughout our work is not only a legal obligation; it is the right and just thing to do. In the 21st Century, businesses need to adopt the equality and diversity agenda to operate effectively. Here at North Wales Police Authority we believe it makes good business sense and helps us to deliver a quality service.
As a public body we must have knowledge and understanding of the various sections of society in order to properly represent views on policing and to understand policing needs in North Wales. We strive to ensure all our business areas take account of our communities and their policing needs.
We are guided by legislation as well as ethical and business considerations. In 2010 there was large-scale overhaul of equality law which led to the introduction of the Equality Act 2010. For more information on this go to our Legislation page.
Throughout the Summer and Autumn 2011 we will be preparing a Joint Equality Plan together with North Wales Police Force. The Joint Equality Plan will set out our equality objectives over the next three years. In creating the Plan we must undertake a number of key activities. We will publish data and engage with our communities to help us establish equality and diversity priorities. These priorities will be detailed in our Plan and regularly updated with our performance against them. Go to our Equality Plan page for more information.
