Human Rights
Police Authorities are responsible for monitoring the compliance of their Police Force in relation to the Human Rights Act 1998.
In order to aid the Authority to fulfil its role in the monitoring of Human Rights, a Human Rights Policy was formally adopted in 2010. To view the policy please follow the hyperlink.
The term ‘Human Rights’ refers to the basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled, and therefore affects all policing matters. Human Rights are ‘… an ethical language we can all recognize and sign up to … a language which doesn’t belong to any particular group or creed but to all of us.’ Human Rights belong to everyone and those rights cannot be given only claimed by people.
Human Rights monitoring of the police force is essentially about scrutinizing how they treat people and how they protect people
