(contact via the Police Authority Office)

Nia Evans, is the youngest member of the Police Authority.

Nia trained originally as a social worker specialising in child protection but is now the manager of the family-run Post Office in Llanfairpwllgwyngyll. A Welsh speaker, Nia is in a Civil Partnership and lives on Anglesey.

Her involvement in police matters began three years ago when she became a member of the North Wales Police Independent Advisory Group. This independent group aims is to increase public trust and confidence in the police, particularly among minority communities. Its diverse membership acts as a ‘critical friend’ advising North Wales Police on diversity issues relating to age, disabiliity, faith/religion, gender, race, sexual orientation and transgender issues and the Welsh language.

Nia has a keen interest in equality and diversity and thinks that finding the right way to communicate with people and increase understanding and confidence in the Police is an essential aspect of the Authority’s work. Nia is a supporter of Stonewall Cymru the lesbian, gay and bisexual charity.

“The Police Authority is a bridge between the Force and the North Wales community, and we have an important role in representing the interests of local people and particularly those’ harder to reach’ communities.”

“I want to see the police develop in an equal and fair way so that it provides the best service possible. I am interested in the diversity aspect of things and I want to play a full part in the introduction of the Equality Standard, which is a framework to promote equality and diversity throughout police work.”
