Protect people and reduce harm
Protecting our communities from harm, especially the most serious harm, is our primary function. Those who set out to cause harm and those who are most vulnerable to harm will always be the main focus of our attention. That’s why we will concentrate our efforts on disrupting, catching and convicting those who commit the most serious crime or cause the most serious harm
We all have a role to play in protecting the UK from the threat of terrorism and we will continue to contribute to the overall strategy.
Protecting people also means supporting them when they become victims so we will provide the best support we can, especially to the vulnerable and those who suffer the most serious harm.
We recognise that substance misuse is a contributory factor in criminality and anti social behaviour and we are working with other agencies to reduce the harm it causes to our communities
To achieve this we will:
- Improve our public protection capability and how we work with partners
- Review our support for people with learning disabilities and mental illness
- Support our colleagues on a regional and national basis
- Ensure that we are dealing effectively with the threat from organised criminals
- Promote the safe use of IT and the internet
- Implement custody review recommendations
- Embed the use of the Police National Database
- Work with our partners to the UK counter terrorism strategy
- Reduce death and serious injury on our roads
The Performance Review Committee has the responsibility to scrutinise the Force's performance under this Priority
