Independant Custody Visitors

Training

All Independent Custody Visitors are required to attend a one-day training course prior to taking up their custody visiting duties.

The Independent Custody Visitors Association (ICVA) provides training on the role and responsibilities of the Independent Custody Visitor. The training is designed to equip newly appointed Custody Visitors with the knowledge and skills to be effective in carrying out their role.

Independent Custody Visitors are required to attend a training visit to a custody suite and to complete two custody visits in the company of experienced Custody Visitors as part of their training and prior to taking up their role.

In addition to the initial training, Custody Visitors are required to attend training seminars arranged, as appropriate, during their period of appointment.

Recruitment

From time to time the Police Authority seeks to recruit more volunteer Independent Custody Visitors. Details will be published in the local media and on our website.
